Steve Kerns
​PRESIDENT, FOUNDER ​

   Steve Kerns founded Norcal Networks in 2003. After leaving Cisco Systems in 2002, Steve wanted to bring his experience in telecommunications, electronics and information technology from the world of big business to small to medium businesses and the rapidly growing home networking market. He recognized an increasing demand in the north bay in these markets for outsourced IT solutions that were cost effective yet provided the level of support and data integrity that he was used to providing for larger businesses in the corporate telecommunications industry.

   Steve's background in I.T. dates back over 20 years working for successful startup companies and large corporations. He began working in telecommunications in the early days of "Telecom Valley", first at Optilink, which would later become DSC and finally Alcatel. Steve left DSC to become the number two IT employee of Fiberlane Communications, which would later become Cerent Corporation, working with James Dehnert to support the company as it grew from 40 to over 300 employees and was eventually acquired by networking giant Cisco Systems at the end of 1999.

   Steve has held a variety of roles in telecommunications and IT. He is well versed in server and client operating systems on Linux/UNIX, Macintosh and Windows platforms. His background includes network cabling design and installation, telecommunications systems prototype development, systems and network administration and project management.
